Transplanted: Kitchen fish herb tank stopped growing #3

Yes, my fish tank herb garden experienced a minor setback. The herbs stopped growing! Basil and radishes were sprouts were growing but dried up. Fresh wheat grass started to fall over because I have not used our juicer in ages. Things not going as planned is still experience gained and growth towards where we desire to be.

My slowly drying out attempt at aquaponics

The wheat grass grew well, and quickly took root filtering nutrients from our fish water. Ultimately I removed the young plants as they all fell over and were starting to attract flies.

My great reset included adding cilantro, more chive seeds since they sprouted and dried out, and parsley. The dried out cilantro and the barely sprouting basil are my clues to the possible issue. My medium seems to be too dry.

Now admittedly, I know next to nothing about aquaponics. I am testing the waters literally on this fish tank. I also have no desire to scale into a full size system for garden vegetables. The medium though seems to be a smoking gun and I am moving forward with additional seeds and a mason jar of water. The tank has a level to maintain which I did have some evaporation and absorption occur meaning add water.
